From "The Guarnery family and 20th-century Italian copies" by Artemio Versari
Vincenzo Cavani was born at Spilamberto in the province of Modena on August 8th 1889. He was probably taught by his father, Giovanni, with whom he worked for a long period of time. Vincenzo Cavani also spent a short time as apprentice in the Milanese workshop of Leandro Bisiach senior. Cavani’s production was abundant in terms of quantity and of good quality, although he never reached the very top levels. He was a hard worker, and was very keen to produce copies of classic instruments. Vincenzo Cavani died in the town of his birth at the age of 84.
Vincenzo Cavani used classical models especially the Pietro Guarnieri. Varnish from an orange to red tones. Also produced an interesting number of viola da gamba, viola d'amore and some pochette violins.
