A student of his father Luigi, an amateur maker. Ettore Soffritti, a fine craftsman, was appreciated and esteemed by musicians and collectors for the beauty and the sound of his instruments. He was awarded numerous prizes.

The violin making in Emilia Romagna, however, also includes figures from other cities. Ettore Soffritti was born in Ferrara in 1877, and as a youth worked with his father Luigi, a carpenter and violin maker. At fifteen he opened his own workshop. He visited several workshops in Bologna, where he got practical experience and developed his style. He was awarded prizes in exhibitions in Ferrara and Brussels in 1910, and in Turin 1911. Soffritti enjoyed reknown success early in his carreer and was sought out by many famous musicians. His production was often based on personal models inspired by classical makers, as well as historically important local makers, such by Marconcini. He died suddenly in 1928. His work is higly characteristic. He had many students.
